The WSOP Online Main Event on GGPoker has closed registration with 6,008 entries and a $28,538,000 prize pool — the third-largest in the event's history and comfortably clear of its $25 million guarantee. The nine-handed final table played out on September 22 with $3,931,259 listed for first place and every survivor already locked into at least $491,000.
The field beat last year's 5,961 entries, a small but meaningful increase in a year when several online series have struggled to hold their numbers. Andrii Novak of Ukraine carried the chip lead into the final session with 108.5 big blinds. The winner also collects a $30,000 Super Pass into WSOP Paradise, the December festival at Baha Mar.
The numbers behind the number
A $5,000 online buy-in is a serious commitment, and 6,008 entries at that price is a substantial statement about where online tournament poker sits in 2026. To put it in context: the field generated more prize money than most live Main Events outside the WSOP itself, and it did so across a handful of starting flights rather than a two-week festival.
The overage matters too. GGPoker guaranteed $25 million and the field delivered $28.54 million — about 14% above the guarantee. That is the healthy end of the range. A series operator wants overage, because a guarantee that gets smashed signals the buy-in was priced right and the marketing worked; a guarantee that gets missed means the operator writes a cheque out of its own revenue.
For players, overage has a second implication that gets overlooked. When a tournament runs well past its guarantee, none of the prize pool is subsidised — every dollar in the pool came from a player, which means the field is the field. The "free money" element of an overlay only exists when a guarantee is missed. The strategic read is the same either way: register for the guarantee, but do not assume a big prize pool means a soft one.
A record first prize, and the shape of the ladder
The $3.93 million top prize is the largest ever awarded in this event, and GGPoker has described it as a record for the series. What is more interesting for most readers is the shape of the payout ladder beneath it.
Nine players reaching the final table with a minimum of $491,000 locked up means the ladder from ninth to first spans roughly eight times the guaranteed minimum. That is steep by modern standards. Many large-field online events have flattened their payouts over the past few years in response to player demand, paying more places for less at the top. This one has not.
Steep ladders change how a final table should be played. When ninth pays $491,000 and first pays $3.93 million, the ICM pressure on medium stacks is enormous, and the chip leader's incentive to apply that pressure is correspondingly large. Short stacks at a flat final table can gamble relatively freely; short stacks at a steep one are being paid to survive one more elimination. Anyone studying final-table play should treat this event as a case study — the payout structure is doing at least as much work as the card distribution.

The near-misses
Lex Veldhuis, streaming live throughout, was the story of Day 2 for a large chunk of the audience. The Dutch pro carried a healthy stack deep into the money before being eliminated in 14th place in two brutal hands: first losing a significant flip with pocket sixes to queen-jack when a jack arrived on the river, then getting his last four big blinds in with ace-four against ace-ten, pairing his kicker on the flop only to see a ten on the turn.
It is the kind of exit that makes for compelling television and miserable poker. Veldhuis was also still alive in the $10,000 GGMillion$ High Roller near the money bubble at the same time, where he ran pocket queens into Samuel Vousden's pocket kings.
For viewers, the value of watching a stream like that is not the bad beats — it is seeing how a professional constructs a stack across a long day and how they handle the twenty-big-blind range where most tournament equity is decided. What this means for players
Online majors are still growing, but selectively. A $5,000 online Main Event adding entries year-on-year while other series flatten suggests the money is consolidating at the top of the schedule. Players with a fixed annual tournament budget increasingly get better value backing one or two flagship events with satellite volume than spreading buy-ins across a full series.
Satellites remain the sane route. Direct entry at $5,000 is outside most bankrolls. The bankroll management rule of thumb — no more than 1-2% of a tournament roll in a single buy-in — implies a $250,000-$500,000 bankroll for direct entries. The Main Event sits inside a 33-bracelet WSOP Online series running August 16 through September 29, with the $10,000 GGMillion$ High Rollers final table closing the festival. That promotional weight is worth noting, because it is part of why the numbers held. Series guarantees do not get beaten by scheduling alone; they get beaten by satellite volume, package giveaways and leaderboard money pulling in players who would not otherwise register at that buy-in.
