WPT Prime returns to The Lodge Card Club in Austin this autumn, with the $1,100 buy-in WPT Prime Lodge Championship running October 8–12 and carrying a $1 million guaranteed prize pool. The full festival runs September 24 through October 12, making it one of the longest WPT Prime stops on the calendar.
The 2025 debut set the benchmark. That inaugural Championship drew 1,648 entries and generated a $1,598,560 prize pool — nearly 60% over the guarantee — with Harvey Castro taking the title and $225,020.
Why Texas Keeps Overdelivering
The Lodge's results are worth examining because they run against the assumptions most people hold about the American live poker map.
Texas has no commercial casinos. Poker in the state operates through membership card clubs under a legal structure that has been repeatedly tested and repeatedly survived. Those clubs are not permitted to rake pots in the conventional sense; they charge membership and seat-time fees instead. It is an unusual model, and for years it was treated by the wider industry as a curiosity.
It has turned out to be one of the strongest poker markets in the country. The state has roughly 31 million residents, no in-state casino competition for their gambling dollar, and a substantial affluent population in Austin, Dallas and Houston. A $1,100 tournament drawing 1,648 entries in a state with no casinos would have seemed implausible a decade ago.
The broader pattern is regional card rooms growing while Las Vegas trims. Vegas remains the destination for the WSOP and the highest-stakes cash action, but the volume business — the mid-buy-in tournaments that make up most players' actual poker calendars — is increasingly distributed across regional venues.
The WPT Prime Formula
WPT Prime is the World Poker Tour's mid-stakes tour, positioned deliberately below the main tour's $3,500-and-up buy-ins. The $1,100 price point is the key design decision.
At $1,100, a tournament is accessible to a serious recreational player without being trivial. It is roughly the ceiling of what a well-rolled amateur will fire without hesitation and comfortably within reach for anyone who wins consistently at mid-stakes cash. That produces fields with genuine depth — large enough for a seven-figure prize pool, soft enough that professionals want to be there.
Compare the alternatives. A $10,000 Main Event draws a few hundred entries at most outside the WSOP. A $400 event draws thousands but caps the prize pool. A $1,100 direct buy-in represents a meaningful chunk of a typical recreational bankroll, and the standard guideline of risking no more than 1–2% of a tournament bankroll on a single buy-in implies a roll of $55,000–$110,000 to play it directly. Winning a seat for $100–$200 changes the calculation entirely — you are in a tournament with a seven-figure prize pool for a fraction of face value, alongside a substantial number of other qualifiers with similar entry costs. The festival structure rewards planning. Nineteen days of poker with satellites, side events and dailies means a player can build a trip around a single Championship entry with plenty of backup action. Booking around the October 8 start rather than the September 24 festival opening keeps costs down while still allowing time for satellite attempts.
Texas rules differ. Card club membership requirements and fee structures are not what you will find in a Nevada or Florida casino. Check the specific requirements before travelling.

The Wider Autumn Calendar
The Lodge Championship sits inside a crowded autumn schedule. WPT Seoul debuts at INSPIRE from October 30 to November 9. WPT Cambodia has been confirmed to return. The WSOP Circuit continues its expanded stop list, and WSOP Paradise looms in December with 20 bracelets and $120 million guaranteed.
For US-based players, the Lodge is the most accessible major of that group. No international travel, a $1,100 buy-in, and a proven field.
