The WPT World Championship returns to Wynn Las Vegas this winter with an addition that changes the value proposition of the $10,400 flagship event: ClubWPT Gold is contributing $1 million in cash and prizes exclusively for mystery bounties, entirely separate from and in addition to the prize pool generated by entries.
The World Championship event runs December 13 to 20, inside a 25-day festival spanning November 27 to December 21 that features more than 85 tournaments and over $20 million in guaranteed prize pools. The mystery bounty pulls will be available to the top 160 finishers.
What "added" actually means
The word doing the heaviest lifting here is added.
In most mystery bounty tournaments, the bounty pool is carved out of the buy-in. A $10,400 event might allocate a portion of each entry to the bounty pool, meaning the total prize money is unchanged — it is simply redistributed from the payout ladder into bounty envelopes. That redistribution changes the variance profile and the strategy, but not the overall expected return.
Added money is different. ClubWPT Gold is contributing $1 million that did not come from players. It sits on top of whatever the field generates.
For the players in the event, this is a straight increase in expected value. Spread across a field, added money functions identically to overlay — it is money distributed to players that players did not put in. Every entrant's expectation rises, regardless of skill.
This is genuinely rare at the top of the live tournament calendar. Added money is common at small regional events, where a casino uses it to build a field. The top-160 structure
Restricting bounty pulls to the top 160 finishers is a structural choice worth examining.
In a conventional mystery bounty, the bounty phase opens at a defined point and every subsequent elimination produces a pull. Tying pulls to finishing position instead concentrates the added value deep in the tournament — specifically, in the stretch where the field has narrowed and the players remaining have already invested substantial time.
The effect is to make deep runs disproportionately valuable. A min-cash in a conventional mystery bounty might come with a bounty pull; here, it does not unless the min-cash falls inside the top 160. The value is pushed toward the players who get furthest.
Strategically, this pulls in the opposite direction from standard mystery bounty adjustment. In a normal bounty event, the format rewards aggression and elimination-hunting once the bounty phase opens. When the bounty value is concentrated in finishing position, survival regains importance — ladder climbing has value beyond the payout ladder itself, because each position climbed brings the bounty threshold closer.

The festival around it
The World Championship is the finale of WPT Season 24, and the surrounding festival is substantial in its own right: 85-plus tournaments and $20 million-plus in guarantees across 25 days at the Wynn.
The schedule also includes a $3 million Super Gold Million event, a new addition for 2026 that sits alongside the World Championship as a second headline tournament with a different buy-in profile.
Running a festival of this length in late November and December is a deliberate calendar play. The WSOP dominates the summer, and the autumn is crowded with regional festivals and the international high-roller circuit. December has historically been thinner, and the WPT has built its season finale into that gap. ClubWPT Gold is the World Poker Tour's sweepstakes poker platform, operating under a dual-currency model that allows play in states without regulated real-money online poker. That model has come under sustained regulatory pressure through 2025 and 2026, with multiple states legislating against sweepstakes gaming.
The platform exited Tennessee in May 2026 ahead of a state ban, halting gold currency purchases on May 2 and ending real-prize sweepstakes games by May 6. It exited New York on December 5, 2025 after the governor signed a sweepstakes ban, then returned in January 2026 under a revised single-currency model tied to poker training credits. In California, rather than exiting as competitors did, ClubWPT Gold restructured its offering around poker training credits redeemable for prizes. Oklahoma and Louisiana have both passed restrictive legislation, with Louisiana's approach classifying sweepstakes casino operations as racketeering.
Against that backdrop, a $1 million promotional commitment to the WPT's flagship live event is a notable allocation of budget. It puts the ClubWPT Gold brand in front of the most engaged live poker audience of the year, in a context that has nothing to do with the sweepstakes regulatory fight.

Added-money promotions at major championships have a mixed history in poker. The most successful versions have been those where the added value is clearly attributable and easily understood by players — a stated sum, a defined distribution, no conditions.
This one meets that test. $1 million, top 160 finishers, separate from the prize pool. There is no ambiguity about whether the money is genuinely additional.
The comparison point worth holding onto is the WSOP Paradise promotional structure, where $1 million in Paradise Parlay bonuses and extensive free qualification routes have been used to build the field for a $50 million Super Main Event. If you are playing the World Championship: the added $1 million raises your expectation regardless of how you play. It is not a reason on its own to enter a $10,400 tournament, but it is a genuine improvement to the value of one you were already considering.
Adjust for the top-160 structure. Because bounty value is tied to finishing position rather than eliminations, survival matters more here than in a conventional mystery bounty. Ladder-climbing has extra value. Do not import standard bounty aggression into this format without thinking it through.
