Online Poker in Maryland — Legal Status & Best Sites (2026)

The Short Answer

Maryland does not have legal, regulated online poker. Maryland has six commercial casinos (authorized by voter referendum in 2008 and 2012), including the massive MGM National Harbor, and legal mobile sports betting since 2022. The state is considered a plausible candidate for igaming.

Maryland players who want to play online poker access offshore operators. The PokerSites.org review team's top picks for Maryland players in May 2026 are BetOnline Poker and Bovada Poker.

Maryland Online Poker Legal Status

Current Law

Maryland gambling is governed by the Maryland State Gaming Act (State Government Article § 9-1A). The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency (MLGCA) oversees casinos and sports betting. Criminal Law Article § 12 covers gambling offenses. No statute addresses online poker for individual players.

Legislative Outlook

Maryland has strong igaming potential. The state has six commercial casinos (including two Tier A properties: MGM National Harbor and Live! Casino), legal sports betting, and an experienced regulator. iGaming bills have been discussed, and the casino industry is generally supportive of online expansion. Maryland borders West Virginia (which has iPoker) and is near the MSIGA states (NJ, PA). Most analysts consider 2027–2029 plausible.
