The Short Answer
Iowa does not have legal, regulated online poker. Iowa was a pioneer in US gambling — the first state to legalize riverboat casinos (1989). The state has 19 commercial casinos, four tribal casinos, and legal mobile sports betting since 2019.
Iowa players who want to play online poker access offshore operators. The PokerSites.org review team's top picks for Iowa players in May 2026 are BetOnline Poker and Bovada Poker.

Iowa Online Poker Legal Status
Current Law
Iowa Code Chapter 99F governs casino gambling. The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission (IRGC) oversees all regulated gambling. Iowa Code Chapter 725.7 covers gambling offenses and targets operators. No statute addresses online poker for individual players.
Legislative Outlook
Iowa has a mature casino industry and a history of gambling-law innovation. The state authorized DFS (daily fantasy sports) early and launched sports betting in 2019. iGaming bills have been introduced but have not advanced — casino operators have been divided on whether online gaming would help or cannibalize their land-based revenue. Most analysts consider 2029–2030 plausible.
