GGPoker has doubled down on Ontario. The operator's WSOP Online Ontario bracelet series has returned with eight events and a record C$1 million guarantee on the Main Event — twice the guarantee it carried last year. The series runs September 13 through October 6, 2026.
For a ring-fenced provincial market of roughly 15 million people, that is an aggressive number. It is also a signal about how Ontario's regulated online poker market is performing three-plus years into its life.
The schedule and the prize money
The headline event is the C$1,000 WSOP Ontario Main Event with its C$1 million guarantee. The remaining seven bracelet events carry guarantees ranging from C$200,000 to C$400,000, giving the series a substantial floor across a three-and-a-half week run.
What separates these from ordinary online tournaments is the hardware. Winners receive a genuine WSOP gold bracelet — the same award handed out in Las Vegas each summer — rather than a provincial trophy or a series-specific token. Ontario is one of a small number of jurisdictions where players can win one without leaving their own market.
The Paradise package sweetener
Every bracelet winner in the series also receives a package to WSOP Paradise, the Bahamas festival scheduled for December at the Baha Mar resort.
The Main Event champion gets the largest version: a C$42,000 WSOP Paradise Super Main package, which includes entry into the Super Main Event — the tournament carrying a $50 million guarantee — along with a 13-night stay at Baha Mar from December 5 to 18.
That structure matters more than it first appears. For an Ontario player, the practical ceiling on their poker year has historically been the province's own tournaments plus whatever they choose to travel for out of pocket. A C$1,000 buy-in that can convert into a seat in a $50 million guaranteed event, flights and accommodation included, collapses that gap entirely. The effective return on investment for a Main Event win is far larger than the C$1 million prize pool suggests.
Why Ontario keeps getting bigger guarantees
Ontario legalised and regulated online gambling in April 2022, becoming the first Canadian province to open a competitive private-operator market rather than running everything through a provincial monopoly. The result was a rapid influx of international operators — and, crucially, a poker market segregated from global player pools.
Segregation is usually bad news for poker. Smaller pools mean thinner games, worse tournament guarantees and fewer running tables. Ontario has partially escaped that fate for two reasons:
Population density in the right places. The Greater Toronto Area alone accounts for a large share of the provincial player base, and poker's cultural footprint in Canada has always been outsized relative to population.
Operator competition. Unlike a monopoly market, Ontario's operators have to fight for players. Doubling a guarantee is exactly the kind of move that makes sense when acquisition is the priority and the alternative is watching players drift to another licensed room.
The doubling of the Main Event guarantee is the clearest evidence yet that last year's series cleared its number comfortably. Operators do not double a guarantee on a hunch.
The broader Canadian picture
Ontario's segregated model has been the subject of long-running debate. Other provinces have watched closely, and the question of shared liquidity — whether Ontario players could legally pool with players in other jurisdictions — has become the single most consequential unresolved issue for Canadian online poker.
Alberta is the province to watch. It has been moving toward its own regulated iGaming framework, with a transition deadline in October 2026 that will reshape how residents access online poker. If Alberta lands on a model compatible with Ontario's, the case for an interprovincial compact strengthens considerably. If it does not, Canada ends up with two separate walled gardens and the same structural problems the United States has spent fifteen years failing to solve.
For now, Ontario players get a well-guaranteed bracelet series. What this means for players
If you are in Ontario: eight bracelet shots at C$1,000 or less is a rare value proposition. The Main Event's doubled guarantee also means the overlay risk sits with the operator, not you — if the field falls short, GGPoker covers the difference. Historically, doubled guarantees in their first year are the most likely to produce overlay.
If you are outside Ontario: the series is not accessible, but the Paradise packages attached to it illustrate a wider trend. Operators are increasingly using online series as feeders into flagship live festivals rather than treating them as standalone products. The bigger series calendar
WSOP Online Ontario is one strand of a much larger GGPoker WSOP programme in 2026. The operator's global WSOP Online schedule featured 33 bracelets and a $25 million guaranteed Main Event, running August 16 through September 29, while the WSOP Super Circuit earlier in the year carried $180 million in guarantees across 18 gold ring events.
