The biggest online poker series of the year begins tomorrow. WSOP Online 2026 opens August 16 with Event #1, the $700 7th Annual WSOP Kick-Off, and follows immediately on August 17 with Event #2 — the $300 Gladiators of Poker, carrying a $3 million guaranteed prize pool.
Those two events set the tone for a 33-bracelet series running through September 29 on GGPoker and Natural8, with more than $69 million in total guarantees, over 50 daily tournaments alongside the bracelet schedule, and a $5,000 Main Event with a $25 million guarantee. Every bracelet winner also receives a $30,000 Super Pass package.
Why the Opening Weekend Matters
Series openers are strategically important for reasons that have nothing to do with prestige. They are typically the softest events on the schedule.
At the start of a long series, the field is at its widest. Recreational players who registered specifically for the WSOP Online brand are present in maximum numbers, before attrition, bankroll damage and fatigue thin them out over six weeks. Serious grinders, meanwhile, are often still building their schedules and have not yet committed to full volume.
By late September, the composition has shifted substantially. The recreational players who busted early have often stopped registering; the professionals who plan their year around this series are firing every event. The Main Event field will be tougher, per capita, than the Kick-Off field.
If you are selective about which events you enter, front-loading your volume is defensible on field-quality grounds alone.
The Gladiators of Poker: $300 for $3 Million
Event #2 is the standout value proposition of the opening weekend. A $300 buy-in with a $3 million guarantee implies a target field of roughly 10,000 entries after rake — enormous by any standard, and precisely the point.
The Gladiators concept was built to democratize the bracelet. Historically, WSOP gold bracelets were the exclusive province of players who could afford four- and five-figure buy-ins. The Gladiators events changed that by attaching official bracelet status to a buy-in that a recreational player can access without restructuring their finances.
The strategic reality of a 10,000-entry field is worth thinking through carefully before you register.
Variance is extreme. In a field that size, you need to outlast roughly 9,999 other players to win. Even a world-class player has a small single-tournament win probability. The correct expectation is to lose your buy-in the overwhelming majority of the time, with occasional deep runs providing all of your return.
The structure will be long. Massive-field events take many hours to play down. Plan for a session that could run twelve hours or more if things go well, and be honest about whether you can maintain decision quality that deep into it. Fatigue-driven errors at the final table cost more than anything you did in the first four hours.
Early-stage play should be patient. In a field of 10,000, there is no urgency to accumulate in level one. The chips you win from a marginal spot early are worth far less than the chips you protect. Standard advice about early tournament aggression is calibrated for smaller fields.
Late-stage ICM is brutal. Payout structures in massive fields are extremely top-heavy relative to the min-cash. Understanding ICM is not optional if you make a deep run — the difference between correct and incorrect play in the final few tables is measured in tens of thousands of dollars.
The Series Structure
Across the 33 bracelet events, the schedule covers the range of formats: No Limit Hold'em in multiple stack depths and speeds, Pot Limit Omaha, mixed games, bounty formats and high rollers. Buy-ins run from the $300 Gladiators up through the $5,000 Main Event and beyond.
The $30,000 Super Pass awarded to every bracelet winner is a meaningful addition. It converts a bracelet win into both a cash prize and a package of tournament entries, which effectively extends a winner's runway through the rest of the series.
For players unfamiliar with the range of formats on offer, the series is a good opportunity to explore beyond hold'em. The Commercial Context
WSOP Online is the single most valuable asset in GGPoker's calendar. The room's traffic dominance — currently averaging 9,726 cash game players on a 30-day basis, more than the next four networks combined — was built substantially on the back of the WSOP relationship.
A 33-event bracelet series with $69 million in guarantees is a marketing investment as much as a tournament schedule. It brings players onto the platform, gives them a reason to deposit, and creates six weeks of continuous content and coverage. For players, that competitive dynamic is worth understanding. Series of this scale exist because operators are competing hard for your volume, which means the promotional value available around them is unusually good. What This Means for Players
Satellite in rather than firing direct. The $5,000 Main Event with its $25 million guarantee is the marquee target, but a direct buy-in is inappropriate for the vast majority of bankrolls. Play the opening events if you are going to play at all. Field quality degrades over the course of a long series. The Kick-Off and Gladiators fields will be as soft as anything on the schedule.
Set a series budget before it starts. Six weeks of daily bracelet events with 50-plus supporting tournaments is an environment engineered to encourage continuous play. Deciding in advance how much you are willing to commit — and stopping when you hit it — is the difference between a series that is entertainment and one that is damaging.
Watch for overlays. With $69 million in guarantees across 33 events plus daily tournaments, not every event will fill. Overlay is free equity, and identifying it requires nothing more than checking registration numbers against guarantees before late registration closes.
Consider your alternatives. WSOP Online is not the only major series running this month.
