WPT Global Climbs to No. 4 in Traffic

By jason-murphyยทSeptember 17, 2026ยท6 min read

WPT Global has moved into fourth place in the online poker traffic rankings โ€” not because its business suddenly grew, but because the industry finally started counting all of it.

Sharkscope Analytics recently began tracking WPT Global's cash game activity. The site's tournament numbers had been visible for some time; its cash games had not. With both now in the data, WPT Global's PRO Score climbed from roughly 1,500 to around 2,000, settling near 1,870 in the latest rankings after touching an all-time high of 2,082 at the end of August on a 30-day moving average.

That was enough to overtake CoinPoker and take fourth position in the Poker Industry PRO room rankings.

What the top of the table actually looks like

The September 2026 picture, by PRO Score:

  • GGPoker โ€” approximately 12,450, comfortably ahead of everything else
  • Winamax โ€” approximately 5,040
  • PokerStars โ€” approximately 3,200
  • WPT Global โ€” approximately 1,870

The gap between first and second is the number that should stop you. GGPoker's score is roughly two and a half times Winamax's and close to four times PokerStars'. For a generation of players who grew up when PokerStars was synonymous with online poker, that ordering still takes some getting used to.

Winamax's position is also worth noting. It is a single-market-dominant operator โ€” essentially the French poker market plus shared liquidity with Spain, Portugal and Italy โ€” sitting second globally. That is a testament to what happens when a regulated market matures and one operator owns the brand relationship with an entire country's player base.

The measurement problem underneath this

The WPT Global story is really a story about data coverage, and it exposes something players should understand before they use traffic rankings to choose where to play.

Traffic data in online poker is not reported by operators to a central authority. It is scraped, sampled and estimated by third parties, and the coverage is uneven. With Sharkscope's addition of WPT Global, 19 of the top 20 sites now have both cash and tournament figures updated daily โ€” meaning that until very recently, several sizeable rooms were being ranked on partial information.

Some rooms still do not report cash game figures at all. In tournament-entry tables, WPT Global has appeared at #4 with 91,752 daily entries, the Winning Poker Network at #8 with 55,636, and Global Poker at #17 with 12,193 โ€” in each case because their cash figures were absent from the combined view.

The practical consequence: a site that looks small in a ranking may simply be undercounted. A site that looks large may be inflated by tournament entries that include cheap rebuy-heavy formats where a single player generates dozens of "entries" in an evening.

Why WPT Global's rise is real regardless

Strip out the measurement artefact and WPT Global has still had a strong year. It reached an all-time high on its own metric at the end of August, which is not something a stagnant room does. The operator has leaned hard into a few strategies:

Recreational-first positioning. WPT Global has built its pitch around game quality rather than rake deals, marketing itself to players who want soft games rather than grinders optimising for rakeback. That approach is slower to build but produces a more durable ecosystem.

Live tour integration. The World Poker Tour brand gives the online room something most competitors lack โ€” a genuine live tournament circuit to satellite into. The WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas runs November 27 through December 21 with more than 85 events across 25 days and over $20 million in total guarantees. Online qualifiers into that are a compelling product.

Enforcement visibility. The room has publicised bot bans and account actions, including a widely reported removal of hundreds of tournament bot accounts. Whether or not that solves the underlying problem, publicising enforcement is itself a recruitment tool for recreational players who assume online poker is infested.

What this means for players

Do not choose a room on traffic alone. Raw traffic tells you whether games will run. It tells you nothing about whether they are beatable. A room with a third of GGPoker's volume but a softer pool is the better choice for most players. Our real money poker rankings weigh game quality alongside liquidity, and the cash games hub covers how to evaluate a lobby before depositing.

Check the hours you actually play. Traffic figures are averages. A room with strong European peak hours may be a ghost town at 3am Eastern. If you play outside conventional peak times, the site with the third-best average traffic may be the best site for you specifically.

Cash game numbers matter more than tournament entries. If you are primarily a cash player, tournament entry counts are irrelevant noise. Look for rooms where cash figures are actually reported โ€” and treat unreported rooms as unknowns rather than assuming they are empty.

Consider network effects, not just site size. Many rooms share liquidity across a network. Our poker networks guide explains which sites feed into which pools, and the Chico Network vs WPN comparison covers the two largest options available to US players. For specific rooms, see our reviews of Americas Cardroom, BetOnline and TigerGaming.

The consolidation trend behind the numbers

The wider context for all of this is consolidation. Industry tracking through 2026 has repeatedly shown that only a small minority of poker networks are growing at all โ€” one August analysis found just six of 28 tracked networks posting year-on-year growth.

That is what a mature industry looks like. The large get larger because liquidity begets liquidity: more players means more games, which means more players. Rooms below a certain threshold struggle to run anything outside peak hours, which accelerates their decline.

WPT Global crossing into fourth place is a genuine achievement in that environment. It is also a reminder that the middle of the market is getting thinner every year, and that the rooms surviving in it are the ones with something the giants cannot copy โ€” in this case, a television brand and a live tour.
