partypoker is moving its Spanish and French player pools onto the iPoker network from September 2, 2026, ending its standalone segregated operations in two of Europe's largest regulated poker markets. The migration is the clearest signal yet that operating proprietary poker software in ring-fenced jurisdictions has stopped making commercial sense for anyone but the very largest rooms.
It is a technical change with strategic weight. partypoker built its reputation on running its own network — a network that, for a stretch in the mid-2000s, was the second-largest in the world.
What Actually Changes
For players in Spain and France, the practical effect is a change in who they are sitting with. Rather than facing only other partypoker customers within their national pool, they will be seated at tables drawn from the full iPoker roster operating in those jurisdictions.
Segregated markets — where regulation requires that only players licensed in that country may play against each other — create brutal liquidity math. Spain and France both operate under this model, though the two countries do share liquidity with each other and with Portugal and Italy under a European sharing arrangement. Even so, a single operator's slice of a national pool is often too thin to run a full game spread.
Joining a network solves that. iPoker, operated by Playtech, aggregates dozens of skins into shared tables. A room that could only fill three cash tables alone can offer twenty as part of a network. The trade-off is loss of control: network operators set the rake structure, the software, the tournament schedule and the promotional framework. The individual brand becomes a storefront.

The Longer partypoker Story
This migration is the latest step in a multi-year contraction.
partypoker enters 2026 as a leaner, more focused operation under Entain. The room exited European grey markets — jurisdictions where it operated without a local licence — which removed a meaningful chunk of traffic. It restructured its tournament schedule repeatedly. It converted heads-up cash tables to a fast-fold format. Now the Spanish and French operations move off its own software entirely.
The corporate history explains some of this. partypoker's parent has changed hands and names several times: bwin.party was acquired by GVC Holdings in 2016 after a bidding contest with 888 Holdings, and GVC renamed itself Entain in December 2020. (888 Holdings, for its part, completed a separate rebrand to evoke plc in May 2024, though its consumer brands — 888poker, William Hill, 888casino, Mr Green — kept their original names.)
Each ownership change brought a different strategic priority, and poker was rarely at the top of the list. In a portfolio containing sportsbook and casino products with vastly better margins and scaling characteristics, a proprietary poker network is an expensive asset to justify.
Why Networks Are Winning
The consolidation pattern across European online poker is consistent: proprietary networks shrink, shared networks grow.
The reason is fixed cost against variable revenue. Running a poker network means maintaining client software across desktop and mobile, running anti-collusion and bot-detection systems, staffing a tournament operations team, and handling per-jurisdiction regulatory compliance. Those costs barely move whether you have 500 or 5,000 concurrent players. The revenue — rake — scales directly with the number of hands dealt.
Below a certain traffic level, the economics simply do not close. Above it, they are excellent. There is very little viable middle ground, which is why the market keeps sorting into a handful of very large networks and a long tail of skins.
For players, network consolidation has mixed effects. Game availability improves — that is the whole point. But rake structures on shared networks tend to be set for the network's average operator rather than optimised for any particular player type, and the promotional creativity that individual rooms once used to differentiate themselves gets flattened. Understanding what rakeback is becomes more important when the underlying rake is standardised across a network, because the loyalty scheme is where the remaining variation lives.
What This Means for Players
In Spain and France: Expect deeper cash tables and larger tournament fields from September 2, with a corresponding change in software and loyalty programme. If you were accumulating partypoker-specific rewards, check the transition terms before the switch.
Everywhere else: This is a data point about where European poker is heading. Players who value a specific room's software, schedule or rewards should be aware that any mid-sized proprietary operation is a candidate for the same treatment. Building loyalty and unconverted reward balances at a small standalone room carries a real, if unquantifiable, migration risk.
For US and Canadian players: The dynamic is different but rhyming. US-facing traffic has consolidated onto a small number of networks, and the choice for most players is effectively between two or three pools. The next question is whether partypoker's proprietary network survives at all, or whether the Spain and France migration is a pilot for a broader move. Entain has not signalled a full exit, and partypoker retains meaningful traffic in .com and UK-facing markets. But the direction of travel is not ambiguous.
For a room that once dealt more hands than almost anyone, becoming a skin on someone else's network in two major markets is a significant moment — less a crisis than a quiet admission about what running online poker profitably now requires.
