The August 2026 online poker traffic figures contain a statistic that reframes how the market should be understood. GGPoker is averaging 9,726 cash game players on a 30-day basis โ more than CoinPoker (2,032), PokerStars (1,926), iPoker (1,074) and Winamax (1,014) combined.
That is not market leadership. That is a different category of business entirely.
The Numbers
GGPoker's 30-day average of 9,726 cash game players sits above its own 90-day average of 9,289, meaning the network grew through what is traditionally online poker's weakest season. Summer is when players are on holiday, live festivals absorb the serious tournament crowd, and cash game tables thin out across the board. GGPoker went the other way.
The gap to second place is the striking part. CoinPoker at 2,032 is roughly a fifth of GGPoker's traffic, and CoinPoker is the fastest-growing network in the market. PokerStars โ the brand that defined online poker for over a decade โ sits third at 1,926.
The report also notes that cash game traffic proved structurally more stable than tournament entries this month, which fits a longer-running pattern: tournament volume is seasonal and event-driven, while cash traffic reflects the underlying health of a network's day-to-day player base. Cash numbers are the better indicator of where a room actually stands.
How GGPoker Got Here
GGPoker's rise from a minor Asian network to global dominance inside a decade is the defining business story of modern online poker. Several factors compounded:
Aggressive recreational-first product design. GGPoker built features that serious players often dislike and recreational players love โ Rush & Cash fast-fold, All-In Insurance, staking marketplaces, gamified rewards, and heavy restrictions on tracking software and HUDs. The strategic bet was that protecting recreational players from professional predation grows the pool faster than catering to volume regulars. The traffic numbers suggest the bet was correct.
The WSOP partnership. Securing the WSOP Online bracelet series gave GGPoker the single most valuable brand association in poker. The 2026 edition runs 33 bracelet events from August 16 through September 29, headlined by a $5,000 Main Event with a $25 million guarantee. No competitor has anything comparable.
Marketing spend at a scale nobody matched. Ambassador rosters, sponsorship, and promotional giveaways โ including an $18 million August promotion โ funded at levels the rest of the market could not sustain.
Geographic breadth. GGPoker operates across an unusually wide set of markets under a variety of licenses and local skins, aggregating liquidity that competitors fragment.
What Dominance Means for Players
The obvious benefit of playing on the largest network is game availability. At GGPoker's traffic levels, games run at nearly every stake and format around the clock. Waiting lists are short. Tournament guarantees are met without overlay. For a player who simply wants action whenever they sit down, nothing else in the market competes.
The less obvious cost is game quality. A network with ten thousand concurrent cash players attracts every serious grinder looking for volume. GGPoker's restrictions on tracking software mitigate this to a degree โ they genuinely do limit the ability of professionals to identify and target weak players systematically โ but they do not eliminate the underlying dynamic.
There is also the question of what market concentration means over the longer term. When one network holds this share, its policy decisions on rake, rewards and player protection effectively set industry standards. Rake increases at a dominant network are harder for players to escape because the alternatives offer materially worse liquidity. Understanding what rakeback is and how much of it you are actually receiving becomes proportionally more important in a concentrated market โ our rakeback guide covers how to evaluate the real numbers rather than the advertised ones.
The Rest of the Market
The figures for everyone else deserve attention too.
CoinPoker at 2,032 is the growth story. The crypto-native room has been posting the strongest percentage gains of any top-five network and now ranks as the largest crypto poker network tracked. Its rise reflects genuine demand for crypto-denominated play with fast, low-friction deposits and withdrawals โ a segment covered in our crypto poker and Bitcoin poker guides.
PokerStars at 1,926 is in the middle of the network consolidation described elsewhere this week, with Betfair, Paddy Power and Sky Poker being brought onto the PokerStars Network. That should lift the number over coming months, though it is a reallocation of Flutter's existing customers rather than net new players.
iPoker at 1,074 and Winamax at 1,014 represent the long tail of European networks that were significant a decade ago and are now fighting for relevance. Winamax's position is genuinely strong within France specifically; iPoker's decline has been steady for years, accelerated now by Betfair's departure.
Notably absent from these particular rankings are the US-facing offshore networks. The Winning Poker Network and Chico Network serve a market that is regulated differently and tracked separately, but both continue to run substantial cash and tournament operations for American players โ a comparison we lay out in our Chico vs WPN breakdown.
What This Means for Players
Liquidity is not the only criterion. GGPoker will always win a raw traffic comparison. The right question is not "which network is biggest" but "which network offers the best combination of game availability, field quality, rake and rewards at the stakes I play." For a $0.25/$0.50 recreational player, GGPoker's depth is a clear positive. For a professional grinding six tables of mid-stakes, the calculus around rake and field toughness may point elsewhere.
Check the rake before the traffic. Effective rake โ the headline rate minus whatever you actually receive back in rewards โ has a larger impact on your annual results than almost any other room-selection factor. Two networks with identical field quality can differ by several buy-ins per hundred hours purely on rake structure.
Diversify if you can. Playing on more than one network gives you game selection across pools and insurance against policy changes at any single operator. It also lets you take advantage of multiple sign-up bonuses rather than one.
Watch CoinPoker's trajectory. If the crypto segment continues growing at its current rate, the shape of the market in two years could look meaningfully different. Growth that fast is worth tracking, though it also warrants scrutiny of licensing and player-protection standards โ the criteria we apply in our safe poker sites evaluations.
GGPoker's position at the top of the market looks secure for now. The more interesting question is what happens beneath it.
