Every year the US online poker market share tables tell the same story in the same months, and every year they get read as if something new is happening. WSOP.com climbs during the summer. It slides afterward. The other operators trade places in between.
2026 has followed the pattern precisely โ WSOP Online led in May with roughly $2.8 million in revenue, FanDuel followed at $2.6 million, BetMGM Poker sat third at $2.3 million, and by July PokerScout estimates had BetMGM back on top after ceding the lead for a month. With the live WSOP over and the autumn schedule beginning, the market is now in its post-summer reset. It is the most informative window of the year, because it strips out the one factor that distorts everything else.
The Seasonality Nobody Prices In
WSOP.com's market share tracks its bracelet series almost perfectly. It climbs during the summer WSOP and again during the autumn online series, and it settles back in between.
This is a genuine competitive advantage, but a cyclical one, and the distinction matters when you are assessing which operator is actually winning. WSOP.com is the only US operator with an event brand recreational players actively seek out. Someone who has never opened a poker client still recognises a bracelet, and that recognition converts to deposits during series windows with a reliability no marketing budget can replicate.
The limitation is that it converts in bursts. Outside series periods, WSOP.com competes on the same terms as everyone else โ rake, rakeback, traffic, software, promotions โ and does not obviously win on any of them. A market-share table taken in June describes a brand at its annual peak. One taken in September or February describes the underlying business.
What the Underlying Business Looks Like
Strip out the series effect and the picture is a three-way tie with a fourth operator closing. WSOP, FanDuel and BetMGM each hold roughly 30% of the regulated US market. BetRivers Poker crossed 10% in 2026, with estimated May revenue of $828,000 โ its highest ever and nearly $100,000 up on April.
FanDuel's position is the one that has changed most, and it changed through corporate action rather than product. Flutter consolidated PokerStars and FanDuel's US operations on March 3, 2026, retiring the standalone PokerStars US client on April 1 and migrating players onto an iPoker-powered platform branded "PokerStars Exclusively on FanDuel." That merge brought Pennsylvania into a shared pool with New Jersey and Michigan for the first time โ the largest single addition of liquidity to US online poker in years.
FanDuel's advantage from here is structurally continuous rather than seasonal. Every NFL Sunday puts a poker tab in front of a sportsbook audience that dwarfs the poker market. That is a slower acquisition engine than a bracelet series but a more durable one, and it is why FanDuel is the sensible bet to lead on a full-year basis even in years when WSOP.com wins the summer.
BetMGM entered 2026 as leader and has spent the year defending. Its margin over the field shrank from eight percentage points to four between April and May. It still holds above 50% share in New Jersey specifically, but state-level dominance is worth less in a shared-liquidity era, because players increasingly select on the size of the combined pool rather than the local one.
The Number That Frames Everything
Regulated US online poker is a roughly $100 million-per-year industry in total. Every operator, every state, combined.
US regulated online casino generates multiples of that. Sports betting generates multiples again. Poker is a rounding error on the balance sheets of the companies competing over it, and that single fact explains most of the market's observable behaviour: why operators run poker as an acquisition and retention product rather than a profit centre, why client software has been under-invested for years, and why the fastest route to poker market share in 2026 was a corporate merger rather than a better product.
It also explains why the monthly share reshuffles matter less than they appear to. A market this size cannot grow by operators taking share from one another. It can only grow by adding players, which means new states. The Virginia bill that died in conference this year, and the pending Maryland and Illinois measures, are more consequential to the long-run picture than any quarter's leaderboard.
The Autumn Test
Three things will determine where 2026 settles.
First, whether the autumn WSOP Online series produces a spike large enough to matter on a full-year basis, or merely another one-month lead. Historically it is the latter โ the autumn series is smaller than the summer one and its effect decays faster.
Second, whether FanDuel converts sportsbook cross-sell into sustained poker retention rather than one-time deposits. This is historically the hardest conversion in gaming. Sports bettors and poker players overlap less than the industry assumes, and a poker tab clicked once during an NFL broadcast is not the same as a returning player.
Third, whether BetRivers keeps compounding at its current rate. A fourth operator at 15% behaves very differently from one at 10%, particularly on promotional spend โ and promotional competition is the mechanism by which market-share fights become player value.
What This Means for Players
Promotional competition is currently the best it has been since 2021. A four-way race with a growing challenger produces aggressive deposit bonuses, rake races and reloads. Our bonus guide covers how to evaluate offers by effective rakeback rather than headline value, and the what is rakeback explainer covers the mechanics of the calculation.
Judge liquidity, not market share. Market share tells you about operator health. Player pool size tells you about your games. The PokerStars-FanDuel merge genuinely improved US tournament guarantees and cash-game availability by adding Pennsylvania to the shared pool โ a real player-side benefit regardless of what you think of consolidation. Our poker networks explainer maps which brands share liquidity with which.
Time your series play. If you play in a regulated state, the softest fields of the year appear during WSOP Online series windows, when brand recognition pulls in recreational players who do not otherwise log in. That is a schedule worth building around.
US-regulated is not the only option. Players outside the six live states, or those wanting deeper games, still rely on international rooms. Our US poker sites rankings and safe poker sites guide cover the licensing and payment considerations, with detail on BetOnline, Americas Cardroom and TigerGaming among the largest US-facing alternatives.
The Likely Finish
The most probable outcome for 2026 is FanDuel narrowly ahead on a full-year basis, WSOP.com winning two or three individual months on the back of its series, and BetMGM holding a close third while defending New Jersey. BetRivers finishes fourth and larger than it started.
In a $100 million market split roughly three ways, "leader" is a title measured in a few hundred thousand dollars a month. The volatility in the tables is not a sign of a dynamic market โ it is a sign of a small one, where a single well-marketed tournament series can move the standings.
