CoinPoker Now Top Offshore Poker Room

By jason-murphyยทAugust 15, 2026ยท6 min read

The crypto poker segment has stopped being a curiosity. CoinPoker now ranks as the largest crypto poker network tracked by SharkScope, the number one offshore poker room, and sits fourth overall across the entire online poker market โ€” ahead of PokerStars in cash game traffic.

CoinPoker's 30-day cash average of 2,032 players edges PokerStars' 1,926. A crypto-denominated room founded less than a decade ago has passed the brand that defined online poker.

The Growth Numbers

The trajectory is what makes this notable rather than the absolute figures. As of July 2026, CoinPoker posted +8.1% growth on the 90-day window and +14.7% on the 7-day window โ€” the strongest short-term cash game growth of any top-five network, at a time when PokerStars dropped 16.3% and Winamax dropped 13.3%.

Growing 14.7% in a week during the summer season, while every established competitor except GGPoker contracted, is a genuine outlier. Other milestones from the past year:

  • Player count roughly doubled over a six-month period.
  • Concurrent traffic passed 10,000 players simultaneously online for the first time in April 2026.
  • Its $1 million guaranteed tournament filled without overlay for the first time โ€” a meaningful commercial threshold, since overlay-free flagship events indicate the guarantee is now matched by real demand rather than subsidized by the operator.
  • Current position: #1 offshore room, #1 for cash, #2 for tournaments, #4 overall.

Why Crypto Poker Is Growing

Several forces are pushing players toward crypto-native rooms, and they compound.

Payment friction. This is the single biggest driver. Players in unregulated or partially regulated markets face genuine difficulty depositing and withdrawing from conventional online poker sites. Card declines, bank blocks, multi-week withdrawal times and processing fees are routine. Crypto rails bypass all of it. Deposits confirm in minutes; withdrawals in similar timeframes. For a player who has ever waited three weeks for a check, that difference is not a marginal convenience โ€” it is the entire reason to switch.

Geographic access. Crypto rooms operate under licenses that permit them to serve markets where conventional operators cannot or will not go. That includes a substantial portion of the US market, where online poker remains regulated in only a minority of states.

Lower friction on the operator side. Crypto payment processing costs a fraction of conventional card and bank processing, which allows rooms to run leaner and reinvest in promotions and rakeback.

Cultural overlap. The crypto community and the poker community share meaningful demographic overlap โ€” risk-tolerant, numerate, comfortable with volatility, online-native. Crypto rooms market directly into an audience already predisposed to the product.

Our crypto poker guide covers the segment in detail, and the Bitcoin poker page walks through the practical mechanics of depositing and withdrawing.

The Case for Caution

Rapid growth in a lightly regulated segment warrants scrutiny, and it would be irresponsible to cover CoinPoker's rise without it.

Licensing standards vary enormously. Offshore and crypto-native rooms typically operate under jurisdictions with lighter regulatory requirements than the UK Gambling Commission, the Malta Gaming Authority or US state regulators. That does not automatically mean a room is unsafe โ€” plenty of well-run operations hold offshore licenses โ€” but it does mean the player has less recourse if something goes wrong. Understanding what a given license actually requires of an operator is worth the ten minutes it takes; our safe poker sites framework sets out what to look for.

Volatility risk on balances. If your bankroll is denominated in a volatile cryptocurrency, your effective bankroll changes even when you are not playing. A winning month can be erased by a market move. Rooms that support stablecoins mitigate this substantially, and the industry-wide shift toward stablecoin support is one of the more player-friendly developments of the past two years.

Game integrity questions. Crypto rooms have historically faced more scrutiny over bot activity and collusion than established operators, partly because the anonymity that makes crypto attractive to players also makes it attractive to bad actors. To CoinPoker's credit, the room has taken visible steps here, including restrictions on HUD usage and integrated tracking โ€” the same recreational-protection playbook GGPoker used to build its dominance.

Field quality. Crypto rooms attract a mix of genuine recreational money and serious grinders looking for softer games away from the major networks. The ratio varies by stake and format, and players should evaluate the games they will actually be sitting in rather than the room's overall reputation.

What It Means for the Broader Market

CoinPoker passing PokerStars in cash traffic is a symbolic moment, but the structural story is more interesting than the milestone.

The online poker market is bifurcating. At one end sits GGPoker, with traffic exceeding the next four networks combined and a business built on scale, marketing spend and the WSOP relationship. At the other end, a growing set of specialized rooms serve players that the mainstream cannot or will not reach โ€” crypto-native rooms, US-facing offshore networks like the Winning Poker Network and the Chico Network, and regional operators with local advantages.

What is disappearing is the middle: mid-sized international networks with no distinctive proposition. iPoker's decline and Betfair's departure from it are the clearest examples.

For players, that bifurcation means the room-selection decision is increasingly about matching your specific situation to a specific proposition, rather than picking from a broadly interchangeable set of options.

What This Means for Players

If payment friction is your constraint, crypto solves it. This is the clearest use case. Players who struggle to move money in and out of conventional rooms will find crypto rails dramatically better, and the segment's growth is largely explained by exactly this.

Use stablecoins for balances you are not actively playing. Holding your bankroll in a volatile asset adds variance you are not being paid to take. Most crypto rooms now support stablecoin play.

Verify the licensing before you deposit meaningful money. Check the jurisdiction, check what it requires, and check the room's track record on withdrawals. Our safe poker sites page covers the specific criteria.

Compare rakeback carefully. Crypto rooms often compete aggressively on rewards because their cost base is lower. That can translate into genuinely superior effective rake โ€” but only if you understand what rakeback actually is and read the terms rather than the headline percentage.

Do not assume soft games. Fast-growing rooms attract grinders as well as recreational players. Sample the games at your stakes before committing a bankroll.

CoinPoker's rise is the most significant competitive development in online poker outside GGPoker's dominance. Whether it continues at this rate is the question worth watching over the remainder of 2026.
